Michael Franti & Spearhead - The Flower (feat. Victoria Canal)
Victoria Canal - Not Afraid (live)

I feel like it’s easy to get jealous or sad of other artists when you see them on tour, 100+ shows a year, seemingly living the most amazing “tour lyfe”. What doesn’t normally get advertised is that the majority of hours look and feel somewhat like these two pics. Sometimes it’s really hard to keep going because you’re so exhausted, you’re just going through the motions and you start to question what it’s all for. It’s really tough on your body to fly and drive so, so much - whether you’re 18 or 68. But it’s the job you signed up for when you spent years imagining yourself on stage, writing songs in your bedroom. There are, of course, the MOST amazing moments that life has to offer when you’re on tour (amazing people, adventure, opportunity to change people’s lives through music), but... if you’re an artist who wakes up and goes to sleep in the same bed every night, I encourage you to consider it a victory, too. And if you’re touring like me, well... I feel you. Maybe it’s okay to say no once in a while. ❤️
From the day we recorded vocals on #TheFlower, featuring some very questionable workout clothes and moves lol. Music video with @michaelfranti in bio. 🌸
So, so proud of this song and video. @michaelfranti it’s an honor to drop pebbles with you, we hope this video makes ripples around the world. #Repost @michaelfranti with @get_repost
NEW VIDEO ALERT - “THE FLOWER": I am thrilled to be releasing the video for "The Flower" featuring @victoriacanal today! We wrote the song with @niko.moon and @bensimonetti to be an anthem for the movement to end gun violence in our nation. For the video, I travelled the country filming families and individuals effected by gun violence and was alarmed by the fact that it touches every corner and every walk of life in our society.
The issue really came home when my wife @saraagahfranti and I discovered a couple years ago that a stray bullet had ripped through the wall of my son’s bedroom, then through a second wall and ended up in our living room. I live in a neighborhood in San Francisco called Hunter’s Point, where we have a lot of gun violence in our community, but as I travelled the country I found that sadly this is not unique.
In 2017, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention counted 39,773 gun violence deaths, up 3,000 from 2016. That’s nearly 108 people a day. That’s way too many. I hope this song helps us to see that all of us, no matter what walk of life, or political perspective, gun owner or not, has a role to play in reducing the number of gun deaths we see in our country each day. I also want to thank all the people who bared their hearts and scars for the making of this video. Your voices matter. Please share the video and be part of the movement to end gun violence. Help this message go viral… “We can be the healing, we can be the flower in the gun”!!! Click the link in bio to watch the full video now!
Today @michaelfranti and I dropped the music video for our song “The Flower”. We traveled around the country meeting victims of gun violence and hearing their amazing stories of healing. They channeled pain into good, which we all have the responsibility to do in times like these. Link in bio, so excited for you to see. WE CAN BE THE HEALING
